Iraq Travel - My One-Page Travel Guide

With all that has happened in Iraq in the past 5-1/2 years, it seems that the country is not yet fit for people who want to visit. No matter what travel agent you speak to or what website you choose for online travel, they all give a warning to travelers. The warnings state that any civilian who travels to Iraq increases their chances of getting either kidnapped or killed at 28%.

Iraq used to be a country of history and some beautiful places to see. Iraq sits surrounded by Iran, Kuwait and Saudi Arabia. Currently, the Kurdish North section of Iraq is considered a safe zone but it is still not 100% safe for travelers. Iraq has some great history including the fact that Iraq is the Earth's oldest civilizations.

If you decide to travel to Iraq unless you are from a country that is part of the Arab League, you will need a Visa in order to enter the country. These days only military personnel and employees of the United States Department of Defense are exempt from Visas but they will need their Common Access Card to enter the country.

To get a Visa, you must get permission from the Iraqi government, which can be accessed from their embassies in London, Paris and Washington, D.C. But remember you may not be granted one at this time. If you acquire a Visa, there are only a few flights to Iraq and they may not fly directly into the Baghdad airport.

You may have to finesse your way from country to country but you will get there. When you get there it would be best not to travel by car. Travel agents and the United States government warn against driving. You can hire an armed escort from a British Security Company for around $ 600.

Aside from the historic sites that you learn about, a lot of the world and what old Iraq used to represent, traveling there is not recommended. It is not only safe but also it is not healthy to drink the water and some places it is not safe to eat the food. Food preparation is not the same as it is in other parts of the world.

Learning about Iraq may be best achieved by reading about it in books or seeing pictures on the web. It is 100% safe, why risk your life to see a war torn country still involved in a military conflict?
